Alivara Balm, Now in Three Sizes: The Tube, the Sachet and the Box of 50

Alivara Relief & Recovery Balm started as a formula our founder made for himself and his wife. Today it is the CitriSafe product our own families reach for most, and a growing number of physical therapists and practitioners are working it into their sessions. It is a plant-forward balm with a coconut and olive oil base and a cooling-then-warming botanical blend, made without NSAIDs, salicylates or lidocaine. And it now comes in three sizes: the 3 oz tube for home, a 0.5 oz sachet for the gym bag or a first try, and a box of 50 sachets for practices, teams and gifting.

  • A base that glides, not greases. Coconut and first-press olive oils carry the botanicals and absorb with a light, non-greasy finish.
  • Cool first, then warm. Menthol and eucalyptus bring the cooling; camphor and capsicum follow with a gentle warmth.
  • Antioxidants for the skin and the formula. S-acetyl-glutathione and resveratrol-rich Japanese knotweed help neutralize free radicals and keep the carrier oils stable.
  • No NSAIDs, salicylates or lidocaine. A good fit for people who would rather skip medicated rubs.
  • Made in Albuquerque. Formulated and produced by CitriSafe in New Mexico.

Why Practitioners Reach for It

Hands-on providers are picky about what they put on a patient’s skin. It has to spread easily for soft-tissue work, it cannot leave clients slick or smelling medicinal, and it has to hold up to use session after session. That is exactly where Alivara has found a home.

Dr. Ben Gonzalez, PT, DPT

“As a physical therapist, I’m particular about what goes on my patients’ skin and what products I use in treatment sessions, but I’ve made Alivara a part of each of my hands-on interventions. It is such a great tool for soft-tissue work, and my patients notice the soothing feel right away. Many of them now keep a tube at home as part of their daily recovery routine, whether that’s after a workout, or a long day on their feet. For patients who’d rather skip medicated rubs, it’s become my best recommendation, and they keep coming back for more!”

A Favorite at Home, Too

Alivara did not start in a lab brief. It started as a personal formula, refined over years, and shared with CitriSafe so our customers could enjoy it too.

JW Biava, CitriSafe

“To me, Alivara Balm is our founder Walter Hayhurst’s magnum opus. He first created it for himself and his wife, then shared the formula with us so our clients could enjoy it, too. Its coconut and olive oil base glides on smoothly without feeling greasy, while menthol, eucalyptus, and other botanicals give the skin a distinctive cooling sensation followed by warmth. It has become my favorite CitriSafe product and a favorite in our home, from the kids after sports to the adults at the end of a long day.”

What Is in the Balm

Every size contains the same formula. The ingredients, in order: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, White Petrolatum, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Acetyl-Glutathione, Dimethicone, Camphor, Menthol, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Capsicum Frutescens Resin, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, and the CitriSafe Botanical Blend™.

The four aromatic botanicals are included in trace amounts and work on different time courses, which is why Alivara feels fresh on contact and then settles into a comfortable warmth instead of one flat sensation. A small amount of dimethicone gives it glide without a heavy film, so it absorbs cleanly and does not stain clothing.

How to Use Alivara

  1. Patch test first. Apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and wait 24 hours before regular use.
  2. Start with clean, dry, intact skin. A pea-sized amount covers a small area like a wrist or hand; a dime-sized amount covers a larger area like the shoulders or lower back.
  3. Warm and massage. Warm the balm between clean palms, then massage in with a circular motion until absorbed. Use 1 to 3 times daily.
  4. Wash your hands afterward and keep them away from your eyes.

Good to know: Avoid eyes, mucous membranes and broken skin. Contains coconut (tree nut) and botanical extracts. Not for children under 2; keep out of reach of children. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your healthcare provider first. Store below 77°F (25°C), out of direct sunlight, and use within 12 months of opening.
